What should you look for in a doctor's vein?

Doctors from many specialties successfully treat vein conditions. But first make sure you check the credentials of the doctor you intend to visit. Although no diploma or other credential can guarantee excellent results in any case, it is possible to maximize the odds if the phlebologist (medical vein) went the extra mile to qualify and study for an exam, publish his personal results or otherwise contribute to the field vein.

Is the doctor a member of the American College of Phlebology? This organization is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of venous disorders, especially cosmetic problems. Although membership in this organization is not selective (any doctor can join), the doctor joining has made a real effort to stay informed. The American College of Phlebology also rewards selected doctors with a Fellowship in the American College of Phlebology. This designation recognizes the phlebologist who actively participates in the activities of the College, teaches new physicians to the field, as well as publishes manuscripts.



The aesthetic vein field changes surprisingly quickly and is important to keep up with the latest advances.

The American Venous Forum emphasizes more serious disorders such as phlebitis and ulcers. Membership in this society indicates academic seriousness, and must be widely published to become a member. Membership in this society reflects a real commitment to problems.

For the big problems of veins:

If you have varicose veins. be sure the doctor does a duplex ultrasound (color flow) to determine the source of the problem. They do not undergo any procedure on large veins if the ultrasound is not done. It is better if the doctor does the ultrasound test and explains what the screen shows. It is better if next a technologist does the test with the present doctor. It is not ideal if you are sent to an independent laboratory, because a paper report provides limited information and may mislead the attending physician.

Most minimally invasive treatments for major vein problems can be done under local anesthesia. Does your doctor offer this option?

For small problems with vein:

If you have varicose veins, does the doctor use the magnification and look for the origin of the veins with special lights? If you can not see the veins and if their source is not treated, the spider veins will be back soon.

Lasers are rarely effective as injections (sclerotherapy) for varicose veins. Lasers simply can not destroy the source of varicose veins. If the doctor offers laser therapy only, be prepared for mediocre results.

Who does the injection or laser treatment of varicose veins? medical treatment is the best, specially trained nurses with certification are in second place. Do not allow non-medical treatment unless a doctor is in place. we list some facilities the name of a medical director, but the doctor may not be present when receiving treatments.
